Gem stone painting

This form of painting, which originated in Rajasthan only around 200 years ago, is done by pasting semi-precious stones of various hues like Agate, Amethyst, Blood-stone, Citrine, Crystal, Garnet, Jade etc on paper, glass or acrylic sheets. Water color lines sharply demarcate the outlines of various forms in the painting. The primary plus of such paintings is that they are long lasting and never fade. If wanna have a painting and not bother about maintaining it as well, then gemstone paintings are a good option.

A wooden box with gem stone painting on it's lid, that I bought at Kalanjali, Hyderabad.
